George Gritzbach Band

By on April 8, 2018 in 2018 show lineup

The George Gritzbach Band plays inventive takes on classics and a healthy helping of innovative originals offering a great mix of blues, roots, and R&B. The band has appeared at a wide variety of venues and Festivals across North America, including opening for B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray and many others as well as local nightclubs and Performing Arts Centers. They also have the versatility to play unplugged acoustic sets for a more intimate experience. The band, led by George, a serious blues devotee who caused a sensation when he first debuted on the New England blues scene, is now backed by a seasoned rhythm section featuring Scott Lariviere on bass and backing vocals and Johnny Menezes on keyboards. Rounding out the group is Christian McCarthy on drums, percussion and backing vocals. The ensemble continues to be in demand as a high energy R&B dance band strongly rooted in blues, funk and New Orleans styles. They are currently in the studio working on a new album slated for release later this year.

Reviews:

 The Boston Globe says;

 “One of the finest acoustic players in America”

“Gritzbach now shows another side as a deeply emotional electric guitarist. He and his band really smoke on classic Blues and R&B tunes.”

 from the Washington Post;

 “Exceptional songwriter”

“An exceptional songwriter…the CD is as good and surprising as he is in person, wonderful original material and knock-out slide guitar work”

  Frets Magazine reviewed;

 “Exquisitely gritty and gravely on one cut, mellow and clear on the next…excellent vocal style.”

 the Philadelphia Inquirer writes;

 George Gritzbach wore a killer grin for much of his band’s concert last night at Ameriplatz. The playing often mimicked the guitarist’s expression: brash, tangy and a tantalizing cut below nasty. There were times when Gritzbach’s bottle-necking cut like an acetylene torch and stung like a hornet.”
